Pontefract is a West Yorkshire market town which is one of five towns which make up the metropolitan borough of Wakefield.  The town is steeped in a rich history dating back to medieval times.  The landmark Pontefract castle is described as having had a reputation as “one of the most terrifying and notorious fortresses in the whole of England”.  It was home to a number of famous battles during the English Civil War, in the 17th century, and King Richard II is believed to have died here in 1400.

In modern times the town of Pontefract boasts a population of around 30,000, with a bustling town centre and a thriving tourism industry.

Industrially the town is famed for its roots in liquorice production, which dates back several centuries.  The area’s deep soil proved ideal for growing the plant, though it is no longer cultivated locally.  Originally used for medical purposes, it was in Pontefract, in the 18th century, that George Dunhill conceived the idea of adding sugar to liquorice and mass manufacture as confectionary ensued.

The confectionary industry is still prominent in Pontefract, with Haribo just one of the famous names who have industrial premises in the town.

Pontefract boasts excellent links to the UK motorway network with access to the M62, M1 and A1(M) all conveniently nearby.

Leeds Bradford international airport is close at hand, with direct rail links from the town to the airport also highly advantageous.

With such excellent logistical links, Pontefract is located perfectly for businesses with wide distribution requirements, and Network Space workspace units provide an ideal solution.

Pontefract continues to grow as a visitor attraction, with a bustling town centre, popular social and cultural attractions including museums, parks and the famous castle, and one of the UK’s leading racecourses.

Investment in local regeneration is evident, with the Pontefract 2028 Vision being a local government backed initiative aimed at improving local culture, tourism, technology and transport.  All in all, Pontefract is becoming an increasingly attractive proposition, and we have identified it as such whilst securing premium commercial rental property in the area.

Network Space are able to offer a number of high quality business units on the Green Lane Networkcentre, just outside Pontefract, with easy access to the previously highlighted motorway network.
